When my sister-in-law found out that she was pregnant with twin girls, she was way excited. It was something that she had dreamt of ever since she was a little girl. She started making plans for a double stroller and matching clothes. But then the doctors gave her the shocking news that one of her daughters had several serious birth defects. Among other things, she had a hole in her spine and several organs that were severely deformed. The baby only lived for a few hours after it was born. My sister-in-law still hasn’t been able to get over the pain of that loss.
