As with any type of insurance, health, auto or life, it needs to be paid on time. Failing to pay for your premium on its due date or before the grace period runs up, coverage will lapse. If you are behind on a VGLI payment and it ends up lapsing, you will get a notice in the mail about the lapse in payment and a reinstatement form that you will be required to fill out. With VGLI insurance, you will be able to be reinstated anytime within the five years of the missed payment. If you apply for reinstatement within six months, you will only need to prove that you are in the same health you were in at the time the lapse in payment took place.
